Peter Crouch: Save Our Beautiful Game S1

In this eight-part series footballing legend Peter Crouch is going back to his roots to help the club that made him. At a time when big money is severing the bond that clubs have with their supporters and the community, this series will highlight the importance of Britain's grassroots football clubs to the communities they serve. Back in 2000, an awkward 19-year-old Peter came to Dulwich Hamlet FC on loan from Tottenham. He claims the inclusive and supportive atmosphere of this fan owned and run club helped shape him into the man he is today. Now Peter wants to return, not as a player but as a member of the Board, to help in their hour of need. Reliant on income from the turnstiles Covid has decimated grassroots clubs. Unable to get fans into the grounds until now has left Dulwich desperate. Peter wants to help the club change from being a 'hand to mouth' match day club back to a thriving community hub. Peter uses his black book of contacts and the ear of his wife Abbey to help with his ideas. But with little understanding of how a lower league football club is run, can Peter help pull off the transformation both he and the fans want?
