Actor: Naomi Watts、《House of Cards》Robin Wright、Xavier Samuel、ames Frecheville
Nobel Prize for Literature winner Doris Lessing’s beautiful and heart-wrenching story of two lifelong friends who fall in love with each other’s teenaged sons. Two Mothers is an erotic tale of misguided love and a celebration of the enduring nature of female friendship.

Roz and Lil are the best of friends, and have been since childhood growing up as neighbours in an idyllic beach town. As adults, their teenaged sons have developed a friendship as strong as that which binds their mothers. One perfect summer the boys, along with their mothers, are confronted by the simmering emotions that have been mounting between them. Deeply emotional, Two Mothers is a story of family, sensuality, compassion, morality and above all love.

Date: Apr 18 (Fri) 10:10pm
Director: Michael Haneke
Actor: Isabelle Huppert, Benoît Magimel, Annie Girardot
With The Piano Teacher, Haneke won Grand Prize of the Jury at Cannes 2001, while Isabelle Huppert and Benoît Magimel took home the Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively. Based on the 1983 novel by Elfriede Jelinek, Huppert plays Erika Kohut, an apparently straight-laced, strict and harsh piano teacher at the Vienna Conservatory, who lives with her tyrannical and domineering mother. Behind the ascetic façade however, Erika indulges a fascination for pornography, voyeurism and sadomasochism, and when a promising young student attempts to seduce her, her desires set off an explosive and shocking series of events. Haneke ditches any attempts to explain Erika’s nature, instead he simply carves out her grim reality, making this film intelligent and thought-provoking examination of female repression.

Elegant, outgoing, gracious and entering middle age, Saara, a Helsinki gynecologist, is very much like the fresh snow covering her city: it looks splendid, but you have no idea what it's covering... In Saara's case, her self-assured exterior conceals a strong streak of jealousy. Saara has discovered that her husband Leo is having an affair with young Tuuli, one of his students, who also works at a martial-arts studio. Intrigued, Saara tries to find out who this girl is, and unwittingly ends up joining Tuuli's self-defense group. Little by little, Saara slips into Tuuli's life, gaining her trust and friendship. She even establishes a troubling intimacy, partly by accident, partly by design. Saara plays it by ear, now lying, now telling the truth; now manipulating, now abandoning herself to emotions she never experienced before. She creates an elaborate scenario, giving herself a false name to mislead Tuuli and a false lover to dupe her husband. She has successfully turned the tables on her husband, but is soon in danger of losing control over the avalanche she has unleashed. Saara, Tuuli, Leo, but also Leo's sister and her husband are all sucked into the maelstrom of jealousy and revenge that will leave them all scarred ...

Finnish director Petri Kotwica's (Homesick) second feature film is a gripping portrayal of jealousy and its ravages, a thriller stitched together with raw emotions, fateful coincidences and surprising psychological finesse.

Actor: Lubna Azabal, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Maxim Gaudette, Rémy Girard
When notary Lebel (Rémy Girard) sits down with Jeanne and Simon Marwan (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Maxim Gaudette) to read them their mother’s will Nawal (Lubna Azabal), the twins are stunned to receive a pair of envelopes – one for the father they thought was dead and another for a brother they didn’t know existed.

In this enigmatic inheritance, Jeanne sees the key to Nawal’s retreat into unexplained silence during the final weeks of her life. She immediately decides to go to the Middle East to dig into a family history of which she knows next to nothing.

Simon is unmoved by the posthumous mind games of a mother who was always distant and cold. However, the love he has for his sister is strong, and he soon joins her in combing their ancestral homeland in search of a Nawal who is very different from the mother they knew.

With Lebel’s help, the twins piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the world, discovering a tragic fate forever marked by war and hatred as well as the courage of an exceptional woman.

An adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s hit play, Incendies, is a deeply moving coming-of-age story that brings the horror of war to a starkly personal level, delivering a powerful and poetic testament to the indelible scars of the cycle of violence, and the uncanny power of the will to survive.
